9 Days Burundi Safari (Bujumbura With Chimpanzee Tracking)

9 DAYS AFRICAN SAFARI (RWANDA AND BURUNDI)- #GORILLAS| PRIMATES AND AFRICAN CULTURE

Day 1:  Arrival & transfer to Entebbe to Bujumbura.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and greeted by your guide who will take you through the trip plan. He will then drive you to the hotel in Bujumbura for an overnight and dinner.

Day 2: Discovering Bujumbura on city tour

Have breakfast and afterwards, you will be taken to see the grave of Prince Louis Rwagasore, a hero of the independence in Burundi. You will then be guided on a climb to the “Belvedere” on the top of the hill, a dominating point of Bujumbura, offering a unique view over Lake Tanganyika. Have lunch there after of which you will be driven ten kilometres south to visit “La Pierre de Stanley et Livingstone” the commemorating stone of the place where the famous explorer Stanley uttered the infamous “Dr Livingstone, I presume” on meeting the legendary Scotsman.

Day 3: Boat cruise & relaxation at hotel

After breakfast, you will proceed for a boat cruise along Lake Tanganyika. This boat trip will give you an opportunity to meet the fishermen who throw their nets and observe the quiet life of the villages on the shores of the lake. You will also learn about the history of Lake Tanganyika. Later, you will visit the largest grave cemetery of Africa.

Day 4: Karera falls and Source of the Nile

On this day, you will walk the Nile in Burundi and then hike to the pyramid where you will be able to see the two basins (Congo basin and Nile basin). You will then proceed to Karera falls where you will hike the five water falls ie Nyakayi 1, Nyakayi 2, Karera 1, Karera 2 and Mwaro. While at these waterfalls, you will enjoy the beautiful views with the canopy walk. This experience will take you 1-2 hours.

Day 5: Transfer-Rubuvu National park

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Rubuvu National Park which is approximately 3 hours’ drive. Upon arrival at the park, you will go for mid-morning game drive where will have an opportunity to spot a number of animals like antelopes, buffaloes, blue monkeys among others. You will then have lunch and then set out for an afternoon boat cruise. While at the boat cruise, you will be able to spot hippos. Later in the afternoon, you will go for a sundowner and then proceed to the hotel for relaxation, overnight stay and dinner.

Day 6: Transfer to Gitega for a cultural tour at the Gitega drum sanctuary

Today after your early breakfast, you will be driven Gitega museum for the drum experience. While on this tour, you will learn about the Burundi towards the Burundi culture and the political history of Burundi governance.  You will also visit the drummers traditional experience entertainment by Burundi Drummers while enjoying a cold drink. After the experience, you be driven to the hotel for relaxation, overnight stay and dinner.

Day 7: Transfer to Kibira national park for chimpanzee tracking

In the morning you will be driven to Kibira Forest National Park for a walk in the forest where you will see different species of birds and monkeys. This hike starts at 8:30 am and it takes between 1 -3 hours depending on the chimpanzee movement. During the hike, you will be able to see different tree species, forests parrots and water fall walk along the tree plantations.  After tracking, you will be transferred to Bujumbura city for an overnight stay and dinner.

Day 9: Transfer to the airport for your flight.

After breakfast, you will checkout of the hotel and transfer to Bujumbura airport for your flight back home.
