During the dry season is the best time to see the shoebill stork in Mabamba wetland because during this time, these birds come out of the deep ends of the wetland to hunt for food. The early mornings everyday are ideal time of the day to spot the shoebill when there is less or no fishing activity going on.

The water levels are low and calm with reduced winds during the dry season and this prevents the surface from becoming full of waves. The dry season is between June to September and December to January. Taking photographs of shoebills and other swamp birds during this period is easier because the calm conditions favour the capturing of these birds from various angles.
